Computer Woes and Other Stuff

Well, I haven't been around for awhile . . . think I am a very lazy blogger.  I hope to change that starting now.  In my last message, I was having computer problems and I continued to be harrassed by malfunctions until I got the blue screen of death a couple of weeks ago.  Long story short, I now have a new computer, but I also lost old software and tons of files that aren't compatible with Microsoft 7.  My current website was created back in 1998 with software that doesn't exist anymore, so now there is no way to update it.  I had started creating a new website with "WebEasy 7" and had several pages finished and saved.  Oh yes, I lost all of it.  Grrrrr.  The Geek Squad at Best Buy did manage to transfer some of the stuff on my old hard drive to the new one, but I had many, many, many photos of bears I had made from 1997 to now that are gone.  sigh   And my photo editing software apparently isn't compatible, either, because it won't install.  I tried getting support from Microsoft and eMachines for that particular problem, but everyone wants to charge a steep fee for resolving the issue.  Rats!  So, now I'm thinking maybe I will try featuring a bear or two for sale on my blog.  That is, after I figure out how I want to do that.  So, folks, check back from time to time . . . the times, they are a-changin'.

  1. Sue Ann, you sound like me!
Hope it all gets straightened out for you. I have windows 7 and know what a nightmare all this can be.
    Take care,
    Laura

  2. Me too. But I do love windows 7, so fast. After losing many of my pictures on the computer I now keep them safe on photobucket. I could care less about other things, but the bear pics I can never get back.

  3. Now's not the time to tell you all about backing up, right? An external drive to back up will cost you under $100 for at least 500 Gb, and it will take you a looooong time to fill that up! Then should your hard drive ever die on the new computer, you've still got the files on the external drive (please excuse the paranoid photographer/computer geek here, I have triple back up!)

Anyway, looking forward to seeing who appears on here :o)

  4. Hiya, Laura, Joanne, and Katy . . . thanks much for your comments. Yup, Katy, I now know about backing up my data on an external hard drive. I was whining about this problem to my daughter recently and she - ah - suggested that I do the same thing. And I will at some point. Right now I'm still trying to get familiar with how Micro 7 works. I also am finding that some of the files that did get transferred from my old disk can't be opened. Frustration aplenty!!!!
Thanks again ladies for checking in.
